Stressed? 7 At-Work Tips to Try


Stress is a normal part of life, so don’t let it overwhelm you. It’s easy to let stress about a personal matter or a business issue steer you off track, taking up valuable time and energy. So, it helps to have a few coping strategies to reset your mind when you're feeling overwhelmed.

Here are seven strategies for handling stress that take five minutes or less.

Take a deep breath and count to ten.
Meditation is a fast and easy way to refocus when you’re feeling overwhelmed. Take a few minutes to clear your mind, breathe deeply and let go. Focus only on your breathing and slowly count to ten. 

Often, a short physical break can have the same rejuvenating effect as a mental one. Sitting or standing, slowly roll your neck a few times, stretch your arms over your head, and bend from the waist. You’ll reduce stress, improve mobility, relax tight muscles and improve your mental clarity and productivity. 

Take a walk.
Put down your phone and step away for five minutes. A brisk walk with no distractions can help you focus on what’s important and what’s not, so you can return ready to take on the next challenge.  

Reorganize your to-do list.
Put a critical eye to what actually needs to be done now. Just knowing that you don’t have to tackle the entire list at once can reduce your stress level.

Delegate what you can, ask for help, or enlist a trusted team member to help with some of the tasks; offer to do the same for them. 

Choose one task and focus on checking it off the list.
By breaking your list down and choosing a task that you can easily complete, you’ll gain a sense of accomplishment.
Put it in perspective.

Focus on the long-term impact on your life. How will it matter in ten days, ten months or ten years?
